INSPIRE Camp: A Programme for School Children
After the success of the
first Camp (April 19-23, 2010),
Second Camp (June 25-29, 2010) and Third Camp (May 28- June 1, 2011) It is our great pleasure to announce
Fourth Department of Science & Technology
(DST), GOI sponsored Innovation in
Scientific
Pursuit for Inspired Research (INSPIRE) Science Internship Camp to be
held in Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, from December 26 -
30, 2011.
INSPIRE is an innovative program of DST for attraction of talent to
science. The basic objective of the INSPIRE camp is to communicate to
the young attendees the excitement of creative pursuits of science and
attract talent to the study of science at an early stage and build the
required critical human resource pool for strengthening and expanding
science and technology system in R&D base.
Under the above scheme SMVDU is organizing its
Fourth INSPIRE science internship
Winter camp.
This camp is meant for the top 1% performers in class 10th board
examination, and who, are presently pursuing science in XI and XII
standard. All the students will be hosted on our campus. They will be
given exposure with invited fellows of various science academies,
awardees and scientists of national and international repute who will
interact with the students through lectures and interactive sessions.
This would be followed by personal interactions in an exclusive setup
in this camp.
Selected candidates will be accommodated
in the Campus of
SMVDU. They will be eligible for TA (as permissible) free local hospitality.
Transport facility is being provided from Saraswati Dham to
Campus and back. It is compulsory for the students who belong to
Jammu District to avail this facility (No TA will be provided to
students who travel on their own from Jammu). Students form

Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (INSPIRE)
About INSPIRE
“Innovation in Science Pursuit for
Inspired Research (INSPIRE)” is one of the innovative programs by the
Department of Science & Technology, GOI for attraction of talent to
science. The basic objective of INSPIRE is to communicate to the youth
population of the country the excitements of creative pursuit of
science and attract talent to the study of science at an early stage
and build the required critical human resource pool for strengthening
and expanding the Science & Technology system and R&D base.
INSPIRE Scheme has included three sub-schemes. They are i) Scheme for
Early Attraction of Talents for Science (SEATS), b) Scholarship for
Higher Education (SHE) and c) Assured Opportunity for Research Careers
(AORC). One of the component of Scheme for Early Attraction of Talent
for Science (SEATS) is INSPIRE Internship in which annually about
50,000 students of top 1% performers in Class X board examinations and
pursuing science at plus 2 level will be given an exposure with leaders
in science in the Summer/Winter camps to experience the joy of
innovations.
Duration of the course: 5 days [excluding the journey days]
About the INSPIRE Science Camps @SMVDU
SMVD University has had the honour of organizing three five day,
Department of Science & Technology (DST), GOI sponsored “Innovation
in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (INSPIRE)”, Science Internship
Camp two Camps during the year 2010 and 2011. First camp was organized
during April 19 – 23, 2010 in which 286 students belonging to 43
different Higher Secondary Schools representing 11 districts of Jammu
and Kashmir divisions of J&K state participated. Nineteen Mentors
joined us to mentor the students from all over India and belonged to
institutions of excellence in Science and Technology. Out of these 11
were fellows of various Science Academies. The second camp was
organized during June 25 – 29, 2010 in which 488 students belonging to
more than 50 Higher Secondary Schools representing 13 districts of
Jammu and Kashmir divisions of J&K state participated.
Seventeen mentors joined us to mentor
the students out of which 10 were fellows of various Science
Academies.
The Third camp was organized during May 28 – June 1, 2011 in
which 504 students belonging to more than 80 Higher Secondary
Schools representing over 15 districts of Jammu and Kashmir
divisions of J&K state participated.
Seventeen mentors joined us to mentor
the students out of which 08 were fellows of various Science
Academies.
All the three Camps were inaugurated by Prof. R.N.K.Bamezai, Vice
Chancellor, on 19th April, 2010, 25th June-2010 and 28 May, 2011 at
Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University. During the inaugural functions of
these three camps, Prof Bamezai, a renowned expert on Human Genetics
delivered the 1st Inspire Expository lecture on the themes “What
Unifies Biology”, “What makes us different – sense or nonsense –
a Genomics Perspective?” and “Why we are
different? Or are we same?”.
As rightly said by our Vice Chancellor, that INSPIRE is an appropriate
method to hunt the talent and constant nurture are key to generate a
human resource of future within the country. These talented boys and
girls once identified at young age would then be ready to shoulder the
responsibility to generate innovate knowledge and become inventors and
discoverers of future. INSPIRE science camps, supported fully by DST,
is one such important step to orient and expose young during their
formative years to creative pursuits of science. Many of the young top
1% performers in class X in the past in their respective schools, the
participants of this science camp, are the future torch bearers to lead
science in the state of J&K and the country in near future. I am
sure science camps like this would attend to the inquisitiveness of
these bright young students and satiate their hunger to learn more.
We
shall be organizing the Fourth INSPIRE Science Internship Camp from
December 26 to 30, 2011 on our Campus. Students desirous of
participating in this camp can apply on the prescribed format through
the principal of their school.
Eligibility: Top one percent of
students in their X Board Examination and pursuing science in
Higher Secondary School Education i.e., 11th and 12th standard
are eligible to participate in this program. In case number of
students within 1% of respective State Education Board is more
than the allocated number for that state, top rankers will be
selected for INSPIRE Internship.
Cut-off Percentage in 10th Class:
J&K State Board : 77%
CBSE : 93% |
